Curriculum
Students at the International British School of Bucharest follow the National Curriculum of England in an international context, aiming to develop responsible, mature, and community-oriented global citizens. The curriculum serves students aged 3–18 years, combining strong academics with a wide range of extracurricular activities to ensure every child reaches their full potential.
Early Years (Ages 3–5 – Nursery & Reception)
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) focuses on play-based learning to develop communication, literacy, numeracy, and social skills. Children explore language, early reading, and problem-solving through creative activities, music, and outdoor play, building confidence and curiosity.
Primary School (Ages 5–11 – Years 1–6)
Primary education strengthens core subjects—English, Mathematics, and Science—while introducing History, Geography, Art, Music, and Modern Foreign Languages. Students learn through thematic projects, fostering creativity and critical thinking. Emphasis is placed on reading fluency, numeracy, and collaborative learning.
Secondary School (Ages 11–16 – Years 7–11)
Secondary students follow a broad curriculum including English, Maths, Sciences, Humanities, Languages, and Arts. In Years 10–11, students prepare for Cambridge IGCSE exams, developing independent study habits and analytical skills. Opportunities for leadership, debate, and extracurricular enrichment support holistic growth.
Sixth Form (Ages 16–18 – Years 12–13)
Sixth Form offers Cambridge AS and A-Level courses, allowing students to specialize in subjects aligned with their university goals. Learning is seminar-based, encouraging research, critical analysis, and academic independence. University preparation and career guidance are integral to this stage.
Our approach ensures academic excellence while promoting creativity, critical thinking, and global awareness.
