Attending an Open Morning at IBSB will offer you and your children the chance to experience our academic programme first-hand. You will be able to talk directly with our students to find out about their personal learning journey, meet the teachers and the school leadership team, and discover how we inspire, support, and celebrate student achievement on a day to day basis within a caring and friendly community. Discover how the only High Performance Learning School in Romania can support, develop, and challenge your child to become a successful lifelong learner.

What does an Open Morning day entail?

Your visit will begin with morning tea with the Heads of School and the Admissions Team, followed by a short presentation by some of our students, who will share their personal learning experience with you, before they take you on a personalised tour of the school. You will be able to visit a variety of classrooms to see learning in progress, look through the class textbooks and student workbooks to gain a view of their learning across time, and speak directly with the teachers, who will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

As a part of the morning programme, your children will be able to join their class to experience what a lesson feels like at IBSB, meeting our teachers, and we hope making some new friends along the way. During this time, parents will have the opportunity to attend a presentation on our ‘Curriculum for Excellence’, explaining why so many of our students make above average progress and go on to study at the best universities around the world – presented by some of our students. There will also be plenty of time for a question and answer session with our Heads of School.

At IBSB, we pride ourselves on offering our students the support they need to succeed in their studies – and we invite you to come along and experience our programme for yourselves.

If you opt for your child to stay in the full Open Morning Programme, they will be able to join their colleagues for lunch in school cafeteria and then participate in the afternoon lessons until to 15:00, when they will be picked up to go home.

EYFS: Nursery and Reception

Limited places available for children aged 3 and 4

When you build a house, the most important part is to ensure you have a solid foundation. Education works in much the same way. We take the approach that each child is unique, with special talents and abilities and an individual learning style. We acknowledge that children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates, and believe that all areas of learning and development are equally important and inter-connected.

In the Nursery (age 3) and Reception (age 4) years the children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum of England.

Our Nursery and Reception classes offer a safe, caring learning environment, which promotes physical, mental, and emotional health and well-being, with good communications skills as part of the core curriculum. Within the programme, there is a strong focus on developing key literacy and numeracy skills, artistic abilities and interests, and a general knowledge and understanding of the world.

We see our children as naturally competent learners from birth, resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. Developing positive supportive relationships to nurture an inquisitive approach to learning is important, as is developing a mind-set that views making mistakes as an essential part of the learning process. In educating our children to become strong, responsible, independent learners, our teachers recognise that the learning environment plays a key role in supporting and extending each child’s development.

From the very start of our their learning journey, our students begin to acquire the thirty competencies of High Peformance Learners and continue to develop these competencies throughout their time at IBSB. Our students become familiar with the HPL VAAs (Values, Attitudes, Attributes), ‘How good learners behave’, and ACPs (Advanced Cognitive Performance Characteristics), ‘How good learners think’, which are interwoven into every aspect of the IBSB curriculum.

Our students also benefit from an extensive extracurricular enrichment programme, consisting of class trips, guest visitors, afterschool clubs, and a full calendar of colourful events to ensure that the early years learning experience is an exciting journey of discovery each and every day.

Working closely in partnership with our parents, our children in the Nursery and Reception programmes take their first confidant steps toward becoming successful lifelong learners, ready to begin Year 1.

Primary School: Years 1, 2 and 5

Limited places available for children aged 5, 6 and 9

The Primary School Curriculum follows the National Curriculum for England and offers our students a rich learning environment, challenging our students to set high goals and to strive for academic excellence in a truly international context. Our classes are taught by an international team of qualified, experienced native English teachers, each with a bilingual Romanian teaching assistant present in every class.

At IBSB, the focus in Primary School is on developing the IBSB Core Values and High Performance Learning competencies to ensure our students develop a love of learning and grow into successful lifelong learners.

The curriculum focuses on the key areas of: English, Mathematics, Computing, Modern Foreign Languages (Options: French, Spanish, German), Music, PSHE, PE, and Cross Curricular Studies (providing a cohesive focus on Science, Humanities, and Art within a contextual topic or theme).

Each of these subjects is taught discretely and as such is allotted specific time each week on the Primary Timetable. All children are expected to learn Romanian either as a native (following an adapted Romanian curriculum) or as a non-native, following the MFL (Modern Foreign Language) curriculum. English as an Additional Language (EAL) is provided for those children who join us with limited or no English, until such time as their abilities allow them to access the curriculum along with the rest of their class.

Enjoying new experiences, discovering new hobbies and interests, and nurturing student passion and talent is all a part of everyday life as IBSB, as our students are challenged each and every day to grow and become the very best version of themselves.
